Veneration of cow has been the unique feature of Indian
culture from the beginning of Indian Civilization as
revealed in the Vedas.
"Cow are
wealth" says Atharva Veda. "She is the Kamdhenu of
India" is the conviction of Gandhiji.
Despite such long continuing
heritage of cow veneration, the present day situation of cow
protection and welfare is very sad. It is a matter of
shame that though cow protection and welfare, and ban on cow
slaughter are parts of the Directive Principles of the Indian
Constitution since 45 years, no Central Law has been enacted
to effectively ban cow slaughter. The less said about
governmental support for cow protection & welfare, the
better.
To reverse this dismal
situation, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and Vivekanand Research
& Training Institute and concerned Sarvodaya
Organizations have constituted "GOVIGYAN BHARATI"
to initiate a sustained educative campaign, based on a holistic
and scientific approach.
This holistic approach is to
be composed of a totality and combination of all the relevant
rationalistic and spiritual perspectives, with the objective of
developing practical and cost-effective model programmes of
cow protection, development and welfare.
Govigyan Bharati, while
evolving a multi-media, multi-locational database and network
centers, will also along side put in place demonstration - cum
- training centers where not only cow but also the men
directly involved in her protection development and welfare,
by way of economically beneficial transactions as a
systematically self-sustaining unit, which become visible
evidence of positive benefits of such programmes.
This holistic approach, if
sincerely worked out, can build a socio-economic order in
tropics based on recoverable and sustainable system delivering
ecological synergies which will not be limited only to cow,
but would extend to the entire biomass (including humans) of
our Mother Earth.
We very much welcome you to
become our partner in this noble task.
Yours
faithfully.
