A three-day National Convention on Cattle (NCC) was
organized at Sarvodaya Teerth, Ghatkopar (W) Mumbai from 11th
to 13th Jan 2002 under the auspices of Govigyan Bharati, Mumbai.
The Govigyan Bharati is the Indian Centre for scientific studies on cow
protection and its environmental, economic and cultural perspectives. The
main purpose of the Convention was to discuss various matters related to
cow, its utility, scientific aspects and importance in sustainable
production practices. The exercise was planned so as to frame out
important recommendations for the consideration of National Commission on
Cattle.
The Government of India has appointed a ‘National
Commission on Cattle’ under the Chairmanship of Shri Dharampalji. The
terms of reference of the Commission are:

To review the relevant laws of the land (Centre as well
as States) which relate to protection, preservation, development and well
being of cow and its progeny and suggest measures for their effective
implementations.
